The red highlighted area above (click on image to enlarge) defines the old Phillips Community located in South Minneapolis. Phillips is one of eleven Communities in the City of Minneapolis.

The old Phillips Neighborhood has now been subdivided into 4 neighborhoods; Phillips East, Phillips West, Ventura Village and Midtown Phillips. It became officially known as these 4 Neighborhoods as of December of 2005.

This area includes part of the Greenway Bike Path, the Midtown Global Market (old Sears Building), Midtown Sheraton, Chicago Lofts & Midtown Exchange Apartments, Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Children’s Hospital, American Swedish Institute, Ebenezer Campus, Lutheran Social Services, Christo Ray & Colin Powell Schools, Wells Fargo Headquarters, Hope Academy, Hope Community, EPIC projects, Maria’s Cafe, Banyan Community, Heart of the Beast Theatre and many other parts of Lake Street and Franklin Avenue that contain local businesses.

The 11th Avenue Block Club is generally defined as the 2400 & 2500 Blocks of 10th and 11th Avenues South.  Those 4 Blocks are located within Midtown Phillips and includes the Peaceful Patch Community Garden – see map here.

Here is a general area where the 11th Avenue Block Club Neighborhood is located, within the surrounding community – Google Maps

The 11th Avenue Block Club has joined forces with the 3rd Precinct of the Minneapolis Police Department, Minneapolis Housing Inspections, 9th Ward Council Member, MAD DADS, the Banyan Community and other organizations to improve our neighborhood. We have also been working directly with our CCP/Safe Officer of the 3rd Precinct, to contact rental property owners in the Phillips Community, to work with them on specific tenant issues and neighborhood concerns.

We want to improve our neighborhood and reduce crime, thereby creating a positive environment for both residents and businesses. This effort will serve to improve our property values which in turn, will continue to attract quality people that desire to live and work in the Phillips Community.

Click on the following PDF presentation link that illustrates the many positive changes in the entire Phillips Community (Created on January 30, 2008).  There are significant updates to add since this Presentation was originally created.
